Kian Hup started as a sundry shop in Ipoh's old town and now runs a warehouse in Menglembu stocking bakery basics: bread and cake flour, castor sugar, shortening, margarine, instant yeast and bread improver. Most customers are kopitiam bakeries, bun makers and kuih stalls in Ipoh, Kampar and Taiping.
Deliveries run on fixed weekly routes, with Saturday mornings set aside for walk-in pickup. Flour is sold by the 25 kg sack and smaller customers can mix brands within one order. The family also repacks icing sugar and cocoa powder into 1 kg bags under its own halal certificate.
