Nutmeg juice concentrate, white and red, made from Balik Pulau nutmeg for hawkers, kopitiams and hotel bars on Penang.
The Lim brothers took over their father's nutmeg orchard in Balik Pulau and now process the fruit flesh, which is usually discarded, into juice concentrate. The white version is light and tart; the red version is boiled longer with the mace for a deeper, sweeter flavour. Both dilute one to five with water and ice.
Customers are hawker drink stalls, kopitiams, café chains and hotel bars on the island, plus souvenir shops that buy bottled cordial for retail. Orders are delivered on the island every Wednesday and Saturday, and dried nutmeg and mace are sold alongside.
