Teratai is a batik house in Kuala Terengganu that turned part of its workshop over to workwear. Cotton is block-printed and dyed on site, then cut and sewn into aprons, waistcoats, sampin, headscarves and short-sleeve uniform shirts for resorts, hotel restaurants and Malay restaurants wanting a local look.
Customers choose from about 30 existing motifs or develop a colour scheme for their outlet. Because fabric is dyed in batches, repeat orders can vary slightly in shade, so ordering spares is recommended. Most orders go to resorts in Terengganu, Pahang and the islands.
